It is interesting to me that evangelism is actually considered a spiritual gift. Aren’t all Christians suppose to evangelize? Yes! In fact it is one of the primary purposes of the church. But, all are not as gifted as others.
This gift manifests, primarily, in two ways. The first is often called ‘Power Evangelism.’ It is referring to crusade-like evangelism. It is the gift of people like Chuck Laurie and Billy Graham. It is also the gift which the apostle Peter exhibited in Acts 2 when he led three thousand people to the Lord with one sermon.
The second way we see the spiritual gift of evangelism is in people who do one on one or small group evangelism–often called Bible talks. This is the person who is able to tell people the gospel message and talk a little bit about what Christ has done in their lives. They empathize with the everyday people they see who are lost and they conversationally lead these people to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.
It is unlikely that a youth in today’s society would have experienced leading others through power evangelism, but I see many who have a heart for it. I have some who regularly bring their unsaved friends to church because they want them to know the truth. Still others will actively share their faith with their friends. If evangelism came up on your spiritual gift test, then these are great ways that you can lead others to Christ. You can also consider holding Bible talks at school or giving messages during youth group, as your church leadership supports it.
