I want to be careful with this one. Creativity is not in and of itself a spiritual gift. Does God divinely ordain creativity upon man? Certainly, but we were all made in His image and He is the creator. Therefore all men are creative in some means or another. That is why I call it creative utility. The Spiritual gift is not the ability to create; rather it is the ability to use what has been created for the Glory of God.
Many (or most) worship leaders have this ability. They can take musical talents and use them for God’s glory. Writers and painters can do the same.
Let’s not limit this though. It does not have to be an ‘artistic’ work. The creativity does not even have to be the work of the person with the spiritual gift of creative utility. There are professional church planters who are able to choose blueprints for buildings that will allow the church leadership the best means for ministering to a specific church body. There are all sorts of ways that this gift manifests.
Because of the broad application of this gift I think it is difficult to identify. If your spiritual gifts test has led you to believe that you have this gift, you will likely see yourself overseeing projects more so than participating in them. The last time we did a youth group car wash, there were several kids directing the posters to be made, but doing little of the work themselves. I think that they may have this gift as they were able to put the creative abilities of others to work for the glory of God.
