Spiritual Gift of Administration

The root of administration is administer which means to mange or direct. I think of a school administrator whose job is to make sure that the school runs in an effective manor.

Administration should also be present in the church. Paul wrote that “…God is not a God of disorder but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14.33). God has ordinance after ordinance for the Israelites in the Old Testament, so that all things would be done in an orderly fashion. Read the book of 1 Timothy to see how order should be kept in the church.

The spiritual gift of administration is for keeping order in the church. The spiritual gifts test is geared toward youth because it is often difficult for a youth to see how to apply their gifts. Since I lead a youth group it is often times easier for me to see gifts than for others. I call on administrators in the youth group to take on tasks like making phone calls, copying worksheets, making booklets or even just watching the clock while I teach.

It does not always seem like a glorifying gift, but certainly there are some who excel in this area. My challenge is to take hold of the gift of administration so that God will grow that gift. Some day this gift will be used for keeping order in the church, whether that is during services or planning and executing events. Administration is most certainly a great way to serve the Christ in the church. In fact, the church would not be able to function in any capacity without this gift.
